We are computational and experimental systems biology group in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State University. We are also part of the new Computational Medicine Program, the Curriculum in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (both at UNC) and the Comparative Medicine Institute at the College of Veterinary Medicine at NCSU.

Our research is focused on the study of biological processes from an integrated, or systems viewpoint. We are particularly interested in better understanding the “wiring” of biological systems and the discovery of underlying principles in biological organization. How do we infer physical and/or functional relationships between molecules? How does the topology of an interaction network affect its dynamics and stability? In what way are signaling pathways modified through perturbation through disease, chemical exposure, or genetic variation? These are the types of questions we are interested in. We are particularly interested in applying what we learn to improving human health and patient outcomes and developing the field of “systems medicine”.

See our research page for more information.
